Breeding Season Updates

January 21, 2006.

It is summer at present with all birds excited and eager to breed...or atleast try to find a mate. The cocks (of all ages) are doing thier courting calls and display dances. The days are long and hot with some cooler breaks in-between. We are eagerly waiting for the new arrivals for this year - the birds and us! Remember to drop us a line if you have questions or comments (go to the Guest Book).

The pictures below are from last season. We will update them for 2006 at the next opportunity.

1. Four young in the nest.

2. First day out! Ready for a feed...

3. Another first day out. Easily flying to the top perches.

4. Ready to leave the nest soon. From left to right: A dilute, a yellow and a normal.

5. Having a first look around at the larger world outside...

6. Yellow face Hen enjoying the seeded grasses on the aviary floor.

7. Various mutations enjoying themselves.

8. The young ones are really interesting to watch! (In this case a couple of yellow bodied hens).

8. Six young in the nest at 12 days of age.

9. An example of how I grow some greens from fresh seed. These shoots are 4 days old.

10. The mixed colony on the aviary floor. The breeding season has stopped for us (for 2005) so they are all together again.
